Your latest update from Michelle Reynolds: spring 2025

Clarion

As a resident, you are at the heart of what makes Clarion what it is today. This is why I want to encourage as many of you as possible to get involved in our 125th anniversary celebrations and opportunities.

We are proud to be marking 125 years of making a difference, that begun on 20 May 1900 when our founder, William Sutton, left in his will the better part of his significant fortune to build housing for families who needed them the most. Fast-forward to 2025, and we're not only reflecting on our rich history but looking ahead to the future, with plenty of ways for you to get involved.

From sharing your stories and cherished memories to improving your community with our Making a Difference Fund, there is something for everyone. And excitingly, I am delighted to say that nominations for our Resident Hero awards are now open.

Nominate your Resident Hero

As part of our 125th anniversary, we have launched the Resident Hero Awards, which celebrate the inspiring people who go above and beyond to make a positive impact within their communities.

Do you know someone in your neighbourhood who deserves to be recognised; who brings people together, supports others, or has sparked change? I know that there are many of these everyday heroes quietly making a difference every day in our communities and in this milestone year, it is fitting that we thank them and show them the appreciation they deserve.

Find out more about the awards, including suggestions to inspire you and make a nomination. Please submit by Saturday, 31 May 2025 and make sure you get the nominee’s permission before nominating them.

Unlock your future: The William Sutton Prize Scholarships in Architecture and Sustainability

I am so proud to announce that, as part of our celebrations, we are offering a series of scholarships to talented students from lower-income backgrounds to enable them to overcome financial barriers and gain the skills needed to pursue a career in architecture or sustainability.

If you, or someone you know, is passionate about shaping the future of the places we live in, please consider applying. These scholarships are more than just financial support; they offer invaluable mentorship from experts in the field, and networking and work experience opportunities.

Find out more, including eligibility and the closing dates for both scholarships.

Supporting you to manage your tenancy

Although Clarion has evolved and taken different forms over the years, we have always been committed to helping you stay safe and comfortable in your home. Of course, life can hurl challenges along the way and there may be occasions when you find it hard to manage your home.

Our dedicated Sustainment and Welfare Benefit Advisory Service is there to help ease your worries and work with you at every stage to get things back on track. They help around 1,500 residents each month, including support with fuel, food and furniture, and claiming additional benefits. Please do not wait until you are in crisis to get in touch.

How your voice is helping to shape our services

Within our resident involvement offer are our invaluable resident scrutiny committees, which are resident groups who review housing services to ensure they meet your needs. This helps spot areas for improvement, ensures transparency, and supports regulatory standards.

As part of this, our committees around the country have put together a dedicated regional report that delves into the topics they focused on last year, what they did and the outcomes.

When it comes to your feedback on our services, every voice is appreciated, and I encourage you all to get involved in whatever way you can.

Some personal news

Towards the end of summer, and after 36 incredibly fulfilling years, I will be leaving Clarion. Throughout my time working alongside both residents and colleagues, my unwavering focus has been on improving customer services. While there is still more to achieve, I am proud of the progress we have made together.

I have always been passionate about amplifying the voices of people who have made a Clarion home theirs. Day in, day out, I have been inspired by the ideas, creativity, and time you have dedicated to shaping and improving services, and above all, the love and care you have for your community. Although I am still in position for a few more months, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the invaluable contributions you have made.

With best wishes,

Michelle Reynolds
