Aaron's story
“Growing up in a one-bedroom council flat with my family was challenging. From a young age, I felt most at home outdoors, surrounded by nature.
However, my teenage years were tough, affecting my mental health and education. Moving into a Clarion property gave us more space, but I still longed for a greener environment.
Uncertain about my future after sixth form, I took a trainee horticulture role at London Zoo, followed by a position at Queen Mary Rose Gardens.
Working with plants and animals gave me purpose, but due to staffing cuts, my role ended.
I kept going and enrolled in an Animal Management Level 3 course, reigniting my passion for horticulture. In July 2024, I applied for a role with Clarion Housing Group, eager to give back to the community I grew up in.
I had already been gardening around my estate, hoping to bring more greenery to the space.
When I was offered the job, I was overjoyed. Now, I get to transform the environment I live in, making a positive impact on my neighbors’ lives.
Working for Clarion feels like everything has come full circle. My journey—from struggling with mental health to finding a fulfilling career—has taught me resilience. I’m excited for the future and grateful for the opportunities that have shaped me.
To my younger self, I’d say: Keep going—everything will work out."
