Latest update from Michelle Reynolds: June 2024

Clarion

Even though we have now stepped into the summer months and temperatures are finally inching upwards, there is no off-season for gas safety - it is just as important now as in the winter.

Let’s get you gas safe, whatever the weather

Although you may have turned your central heating off, your boiler and appliances still need their annual check to see that they are working safely and well.

Delivered by one of our approved gas safety contractors, these free, simple, and quick (usually just 20 minutes) checks are there to keep you, your neighbours, and your home safe. They will also test that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly. Kindly note that shared owners are responsible for their own gas safety checks (find your local gas contractor).

Please look out for your annual appointment letter, which is normally sent around 10 months after your last check. If you haven’t had a gas safety check in the last 12 months or been contacted by your contractor about a safety check that is due, please contact us to request an appointment.

We have an abundance of information on our website, including gas safety advice, what your appointment will entail, and what to do if you smell gas or suspect a gas or carbon monoxide leak.

Join the Clarion Housing Association Board and make a difference

Are you passionate about your community? Would you like to use your skills, knowledge, and experience to support the issues affecting Clarion residents? We are currently looking for a new resident member to join the Clarion Housing Association Board and bring with them the knowledge and a fresh perspective to make a real difference.

At Clarion, one of our aims is to empower and amplify the voices of our residents. We know that you are the best people to help us shape and improve the services we deliver, meet your needs and drive-up standards. That is why we’re proud to say that a third of our Clarion Housing Association Board members are residents.

As a member, you will help handle the delivery of all our landlord services and work together to shape and improve how we manage and maintain our homes.

Find out more about what this rewarding role entails, including the commitment requirements, how you will be supported and how to apply. Ensure you get your applications submitted by 5pm on Friday, 28 June.

Times are tough - we're here to help with money guidance

It can be tricky to understand what benefits you are entitled to; however, it is well worth exploring what financial assistance you may be able to access, especially with the spiralling cost of living putting the strain on many household budgets.

Our Welfare Benefits Advisory Service is made up of experts who can help you understand your benefits - last year alone we helped our residents access an extra £1 million in financial support. This is a good opportunity to also mention that if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week and they get certain benefits you could be eligible for Carers Allowance.

If you do find yourselves struggling with money, please do not delay in reaching out. Whatever the situation we can work with you to find a solution. From managing bills to making savings, check out our dedicated page.

As well as our money guidance, we can help build your confidence and career with our Active Inclusion programme. Specially designed for people with multiple complex needs, it helps get you ready for the world of work by introducing gentle ways to explore job and training opportunities and offers one-to-one support.

Understanding Tenant Satisfaction Measures

Recently introduced, Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSMs) are standards set by the Regulator of Social Housing to check how well social housing landlords meet resident needs. TSMs cover important areas, such as property repairs, building safety, complaints handling, resident engagement, and neighbourhood management. They help residents see how their landlords are performing and hold them accountable. Please check our website for updates.

And finally...

I am delighted to announce our three-year corporate partnership with leading children’s charity NSPCC, which aligns with our commitment to making a positive impact in our communities.

Launching earlier this month, we will be starting our partnership by supporting NSPCC’s Building Connections online service for young people, which empowers them to build their confidence and find ways to better manage loneliness. Find out more about our partnership.
